I would like to start today's posting with a disclaimer: I love nature. I love all forms of the darn thing! Flowers, animals, trees, cloud formations... you name it, I can appreciate it. With that being said, I decided that for February's Polish Days: Back To Nature challenge I would look no further than right outside my window. Needless to say, living in Upstate New York at this time of year my options were very limited. Snow, snow, more snow, and bare tree branches. Wait! Bare tree branches?!?!?!?! With my inspiration sufficiently piqued, I decided to capture the minimalist beauty of bare branches against a grey February sky.
I rummaged through my polish stash and came out with I Don't Give A Rotterdam! from OPI's Holland collection and Foie Gras from China Glaze's Hunger Games collection. After laying down my usual base coat ritual of one coat Nail Life Nail Revitalizer and one coat Butter London's Nail Foundation, I set to work on my "grey sky." Three healthy coats gave me perfect smooth opacity. I love the not-so-subtle gold and silver shimmer lying within this gorgeous blueish grey base. Lovely! With my smallest nail-dotting tool end, I set to work drawing on branches using Foie Gras. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy (except for the part where I repeatedly ruined the base color by accidentally dragging the dotting tool's tip against my nail)!
I adore the stark difference between the shimmery background and the brown cream branches. Even though this is an admittedly simple manicure, I think that it turned out to be incredibly elegant and seasonally appropriate. Both of the polishes that I used applied beautifully and were a pleasure to use.
Even though my manicure isn't terribly technical, bright, or cheery I hope that you find it half as lovely as I do. Which begs the question. Dear reader, would you ever consider wearing bare branches as a manicure? While you ponder that thought, I'll be checking out the other Polish Days nature manicures! Do join!
