Imagine the boundless joy of viewing it all - the Yellow Brick Road, Dorothy's ruby pumps and blue gingham pinafore, the Emerald City - all that glorious business - in color.
For the first time. In my twenties.
Mmmm hmmm. A colorful mind blower, if ever there was one.
With those memories in mind, I bring you my inspiration, for Day 23 of this nail challenge....
THE WIZARD OF OZ
For nail art, I focused on two of the more common motifs, and then threw in a few emblematic shades. Mostly because I can't draw to save my life. Still, I think you'll get the idea, with this pic-heavy post...
The polishes were easy to work with, and in the end, I'm pleased with the results. Truth be told, I did the damn gingham nail FOUR (count 'em: 4) times. The first three times were indistinguishable from a solid blue nail. I kid you not. And the Yellow Brick Road? I stuck a fork in it, after two attempts. It wasn't going to get any better. I've mentioned that I have trouble drawing stick figures, right?
Oh, PS....I LOVE the new Color Club Halo Hues collection! For this challenge, I applied Harp On It, a stunning silver linear holographic, on my index finger (as an uncomplicated nod to Jack Haley's Tin Man). This one is formulated uncommonly smooth (think: a-England). The coverage was good at one coat, and dynamite at two.
And dig this: I scored the entire set for US $3.99 per bottle, at a fabulous local beauty supply store, while visiting Liz in Buffalo last weekend. Linear holographic polishes have this delightful ability to create the illusion of a longer nail bed. When you're like me, and wear practical-length nubbins for nails, this is a Copperfield-like illusion you can get behind.
As for my visit with Liz, we did some serious polish shopping together, and ate yummy stuff at nearly every turn. We spent quality time at the Fairy Cakes Cupcakery and King Condrell's candy shop. Need I say more about our exquisitely sweet dietary choices?
In the background of all this polishing and eats sat our respective hubby and fiance, who I must say were fabulous and wisely tolerant of our insanity.
Well, that's it for tonight, folks. I'm now off to check out the movie-inspired creations of my co-challengers. I hope you'll join me! :)
