31 DAY CHALLENGE, DAY 18 - Half Moons!

Welp. I apologize for the delay in getting this post out, but I have to say that there is a positive side to this learning experience. I have found out that I loathe half moon manicures. Looooooooathe them. They are difficult, and demanding, and they never seem to come out the way that I plan.

But, oh. I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start over.

::AHEM::

Welcome to day 18 of the 31 day challenge that has been so kindly hosted by Kimber. Today's challenge is Half Moons! Oooooooh. Aaaaaah. Let me show you what I did!
Illamasqua - Aorta, Amy's Nail Boutique - Kitchen Sink

 Pictured above are the tools that I used for the manicure in question. My (not-so)trusty hole reinforcements, Illamasqua's rubberized Aorta, and Kitchen Sink from Amy's Nail Boutique.
The reason why I chose these two polishes is because Aorta has this gorgeous rubber texture, while Kitchen Sink is the most glorious matte rainbow glitter I have ever seen. In my mind they are a match made in heaven, with this delicious texture thing going on along with these fantastically bright colors. Fantastic!
 I've seen it said on other blogs, but I have to repeat this... Aorta seriously reminded me of the wax coating on the Babybel mini cheese wheels. Mixed with my ridiculously pale skin tone, I kept wanting to peel off the polish and eat cheese... is that strange? It's strange. Sorry. Awkward.

Moving on.
Check out my gratuitous "Hey-I'm-holding-the-bottle-check-out-my-nails" pictures.
Oh. Yeah. Holding this polish like a BOSS.

Alright. Now that I've posted my pictures and my thought-process for picking out the colors, let me bitch. I cannot stand half moon manicures... on myself. I have no skill when it comes to lining them up evenly, and the imperfections are enough to drive me insane. I have two different sticker guides that are supposed to help with this! Of course, it doesn't help that I picked a bright as all get-out red against my natural nails... but still!

::Sigh::

Enough about my feelings. I'm going to drown my half moon sorrows by checking out the rest of our 31 day challengers.

  1. OH how I hate hole reinforcements. I tried them again this time and they sucked. I had to go in and clean up the lines on every nail. I actually freehanded my middle nail and it came out much better. Still, too much work and annoyance for me!

    1. Thanks Kimber - I'm relieved that I'm not the only one who isn't madly in love with the hole reinforcements.

  2. This looks so cool!! I agree that the hole reinforcements aren't always super sharp edged, but Kimber is right - cleaning up makes them look really stellar. I usually use my normal edging brush which is really a cheap angled eyeshadow brush, but you can sweep it along the edges to make them perfect. Aorta is totally gorgeous, I am going to need to pick it up!

    1. Thanks for the advice! I'm going to have to try half moons with some cleanup to see if I like the effect better. :)
