For the glitter aspect of this mani, I decided to turn to the one glitter type that I have the greatest weakness for. For some strange, unfathomable reason, I love rose colored glitter. It makes me happy, and at the last count I had seven slightly different rose colored glitter polishes from seven different brands. I don't particularly adore pink... My favorite color is blue... so I'm not sure where this obsession came from.
Because I was feeling rather uninspired this morning, I decided to use butter LONDON's Rosie Lee (which is a lovely polish with rose pink glitter in a clear base) as a base for one of my most recent acquisitions - drumroll please - Barry M's Croc Effects polish in black. After seeing pictures online, I knew that I had to try it. Enough exposition, let's get to the pictures.
The manicure ended up being three coats of Rosie Lee (I had been hoping for greater coverage and I was dissapointed. The color is lovely, but it didn't have great coverage) and one coat of the croc effect. Originally I had thought that I would leave my pinky nail as a glitter accent, but the excitement of the croc effect won out. I just had to paint it too! It was madness! Sheer madness! Also, it helped to hide the fact that Rosie Lee didn't completely cover my nail.
If you look closely, you can see a difference in pattern size and definition between my pinky nail and the rest of the hand. This is due to application - I applied a thin coat of the croc effect polish to the pinky which resulted in thin cracks. The other fingers had a rather thick application, which allowed for a more obvious croc/crackle effect. I liked both results, but I am rather partial to the large cracks of glitter that I got with the thicker coats. The thinner coat ended up reminding me of molten lava showing through cooled cracks. I will definitely have to attempt this over a red glitter!
Here is my closing picture, and I'm kind of in love with it. Today has been particularly overcast, but I was able to snag a few moments of sunlight for this picture. I love the shine of Rosie Lee underneath the black croc top coat. It's super dramatic, and a different way to wear glitters - at least for me it's different. Very cool.
On that note, I'm going to head over and see what the other challengers have done for today's challenge. I highly suggest you check them out as well! Cheers!

It's so pretty! I've been dying to get the croc nail effect polish. Really awesome mani :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lariesa! It's a really nice twist on the crackle top coat - if you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend it. :)
ReplyDeleteNeat! I've never seen crackle/croc over glitter, it does give it a cool effect!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I really loved it... it would glimmer in my indoor lighting and I would pout because I wasn't able to be out in the sun!
DeleteLiz, this so much reminds me of the Dior Jungle crocodile lacquer set. That duo goes for a pretty penny, which is why I've not picked it up yet. I like, alot. Looking forward to getting the Burgundy croc lacquer from Barry M!
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
L
I actually haven't seen the Dior Jungle set.... how have I missed this?!
DeleteI've been wanting to get the crock effects! Love the look so much!
ReplyDeleteI highly suggest them! They take forever to dry, but it's such a different feel from the usual crackle effect!
